I am not sure i would use the word 'scam'. However it has definately never been portrayed well by the media.
I have never read into Scientology though what i have heard has been ridiculous. Without reading up and knowing more i cannot pass judgement.
It Certainly sounds like a wacky version of a generalised religion.

What if a woman was raped?
Should she have to suffer the ordeal of a baby growing inside her as a result from that horrifying experience? should she have to raise it? could you?
what if you have sex and used protection but by unfortunate chance,
the girl still got pregnant?
what? too bad? bad luck?
I believe under certain circumstances it is acceptable for an abortion.

well, that about sums it up.
i understand what your trying to achieve with it. It's a good system, if you'd stop using it as an excuse to kill, torture and burn people alive. =]

I agree, to a certain extent.
Better that criminals die rather than spend an entire life in jail (without release) using tax money and having a half life.

He is one wacky fella. Perhaps a little mentally unhinged.
It was a case of people believing what they want to believe.
Shame he lost all his money, career, fame... because of false accusations.
