Sarah Palin's Opinions

[I'm as] pro-life as any candidate can be [...and has...] adamantly supported our cause since I first understood, as a child, the atrocity of abortion.
Disagree
[The Alaskan gubernatorial candidates were pressed on their stances on abortion and were even asked what they would do if their own daughters were raped and became pregnant. Sarah Palin said she would support abortion only if the mother's life was in danger. When it came to her daughter, she said] I would choose life.

Agree
Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support. [in answer to the question: Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?]
Mostly Agree
My personal opinion is we should not create human life, create an embryo and then destroy it for research, if there are other options out there.

Agree
Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools.

Disagree
Gov. Sarah Palin said Wednesday that she will comply with an Alaska Supreme Court order issued Tuesday to offer health and retiree benefits to same-sex partners of state employees starting Jan. 1. "We believe that we have no more judicial options to pursue. So we may disagree with kind of the foundation there, the rationale behind the ruling, but our responsibility is to proceed forward with the law and abide by the constitution"
Neutral
I don't know [whether homosexuality is genetic or learned], but I'm not one to judge and, you know, I'm from a family and from a community with many, many members of many diverse backgrounds and I'm not going to judge someone on whether they believe that homosexuality is a choice or genetic.

Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God, that what we have to make sure what we’re praying for, [is] that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan. [editors note: the comments caused a media stir, and in a later interview Palin talked about what she really meant]
Neutral
I would never presume to know God's will or to speak God's words. But what Abraham Lincoln had said, and that's a repeat in my comments, was let us not pray that God is on our side in a war or any other time, but let us pray that we are on God's side. ... I send my first born, my son, my teenage son overseas with his Stryker brigade, 4,000 other wonderful American men and women, to fight for our country, for democracy, for our freedoms.

Agree
I applaud the Court for standing up for the Constitution and the right of Americans to keep and bear arms. [The high court’s 5-4 ruling in District of Columbia vs. Heller affirmed gun rights by striking down the District’s 32-year-old ban on handguns.]

Agree
It's been grossly misunderstood on many fronts. When you see the pictures, the visuals used in the opponents' message--and usually this is extreme environmentalists--their message as to why ANWR shouldn't be touched, you see pictures of mountains and rivers and beautiful green valleys. That's not ANWR. ANWR is a flat, barren plain that is very, very rich in resources.
Agree
We are a nation at war and in many [ways] the reasons for war are fights over energy sources, which is nonsensical when you consider that domestically we have the supplies ready to go.

Disagree
A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.
Disagree
...these global warming studies that now we're seeing (is) a bunch of snake oil science.

But there are real changes going on in our climate. And I don't want to argue about the causes. What I want to argue about is, how are we going to get there to positively affect the impacts? We have got to clean up this planet. We have got to encourage other nations also to come along with us with the impacts of climate change, what we can do about that. As governor, I was the first governor to form a climate change sub-cabinet to start dealing with the impacts. We've got to reduce emissions.

The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s “death panel” so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their “level of productivity in society,” whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil. Health care by definition involves life and death decisions. Human rights and human dignity must be at the center of any health care discussion. ... [It's] Orwellian thinking...

Mr. President, should they or should they not build a mosque steps away from where radical Islamists killed 3000 people? ... If those who wish to build this Ground Zero mosque are sincerely interested in encouraging positive "cross-cultural engagement" and dialogue to show a moderate and tolerant face of Islam, then why haven't they recognized that the decision to build a mosque at this particular location is doing just the opposite?
