Ian Enting

Physics Professor, IPCC Lead Author

Ian G. Enting leads the CSIRO Atmospheric Research team on greenhouse gas modelling. He trained in mathematical physics and joined CSIRO in 1980. His modelling interests include both predictive modelling (calculating future greenhouse gas concentrations), and interpretive modelling (understanding past and present patterns of emissions of greenhouse gases). His particular area of interest is in systematic assessment of the uncertainties involved in such calculations.

Ian Enting's Opinions

Agree
I'm acting as a reviewer for the latest last little bit of the IPCC reports, and you actually do get to see this vast body of evidence in appallingly large detail (and massive amounts of trees have gone into it) and that's what you can't explain away. So it tends to be people who focus on one very tiny aspect and say there could be other causes, but when you look at the evidence as a whole or even a large part of it, then I don't think there's anything in these [skeptical] arguments at all.

Agree
One of the things is that the climate system is very complex. It's not as complex as Senator Minchin would make out, it's not the most complex system known to man-the human brain I would probably rate higher, the development of life and so on-because Arrhenius could predict four degrees warming back in 1896 from doubling CO2.
